Define The Purpose Of Your Church LED Screen

Church LED displays usually have two types: the main worship LED screen and the auxiliary information screen (like chancel LED screen and choir LED screen). They usually display different content and have different requirements.

The main screen usually has a larger size and more accurate color performance; the auxiliary screens are always used to display text information or supporting content, so they need moderate brightness and a flexible structure.

In addition, if you only want to hold a temporary event, a rental LED screen is a better choice than a fixed church screen.

Confirm The Right Pixel Pitch And Resolution

The church’s viewing distances are usually long, so you should choose the pixel pitch and resolution based on the farthest viewing distance.

A resolution that is too high can increase costs and add pressure on heat dissipation. At the same time, if the pixel pitch is too large, viewers in the front rows may notice visible pixelation. This may also affect the viewing experience.

Choose Display Parameters Based On The Environment

Apart from the brightness and pixel pitch mentioned above, other display parameters are also important. The first is color performance parameters, including contrast ratio, grayscale, and color temperature. Higher contrast ratio and grayscale can deliver purer and more natural colors.

When the grayscale level is low, color distortion or grayscale banding may appear around the edges of text. If you want the screen to deliver excellent color performance, you can choose low brightness with high grayscale technology and black LED packaging.

The second factor is the refresh rate. A low refresh rate may cause screen flickering or moiré patterns when you film the screen. Generally, the screen refresh rate should be at least 3840Hz, to avoid these issues.

Size, Aspect Ratio And Shape

You should calculate the screen height based on the farthest viewing distance. If you plan to play videos and require a highly immersive viewing experience, the screen height can be around 1/5 of the farthest viewing distance. If you only need to display text, the screen height can be around 1/8 of the farthest viewing distance.

For the aspect ratio, the most common ratio for church LED screens is 16:9, which fits most video content. You can also customize the screen aspect ratio to match the content you create.

In addition, if you need special stage effects, you can customize a curved LED screen. But the cost will also be higher.

How to Arrange Installation, Structural, and Power Planning?

Choose Installation Method Based on the Building Structure and Usage

Common installation methods for church LED screens are: wall-mounted, hanging, floor-standing, and recessed installations. Each type of screen has certain requirements for the installation place.

Wall-mounted church LED walls are suitable for flat walls with enough load-bearing capacity. Also, you need to reserve at least 50mm of space behind the screen for heat dissipation and sound absorption. If you want to install a suspended church LED screen, each suspension point must have a safety factor of at least 5 times, and safety ropes must also be installed.

In contrast, floor-standing and recessed LED screens are usually safer. Recessed church LED screens usually provide a cleaner and more elegant appearance, but they also require sufficient wall load-bearing capacity. If drilling into the building structure is not convenient, you can choose a floor-standing church LED screen.

Acoustic Compatibility Treatment

LED screens may produce resonance noise when exposed to pipe organs, choirs, or low-frequency audio systems. During installation, you need to fill the space behind the screen with sound-absorbing cotton or acoustic damping materials, and install soft sealing strips at the cabinet joints.

For wall-supported installation methods, the load-bearing capacity of the supporting structure should be at least 3 times the actual load. At the same time, you should also consider the screen’s live loads (maintenance personnel and temporary tools), wind loads, seismic loads, and other factors.

During the planning stage, you should design the power distribution system based on the maximum power consumption. Also, the metal frame, power supply housing, and signal shielding layer must be properly grounded. If your screen is installed outdoors, you should also install a power surge protector.

LED screens usually produce a lot of heat during operation. You should leave enough space behind the screen for heat dissipation. If the screen needs to be recessed into the wall, you can add ventilation openings at the top and bottom or install silent exhaust fans.

Safety Compliance and Fire Protection

Large LED screens usually have high power consumption, so you should verify if their electrical safety and fire-resistant materials meet the corresponding standards. The module masks, cables, and frames should be flame-resistant. The screen should also have short-circuit protection, leakage protection, surge protection, and cable protection pipes.

Documentation and Packaging Inspection

Before opening the package, you need to check whether all documents are complete first. The core documents include the packing list, certificate of conformity, factory inspection report, warranty card, third-party certifications, etc.

Then, inspect the packaging and transportation marks. The outer packaging should have no serious damage or water stains. If you found any issues are found, note them on the delivery receipt and take photos for records.

Appearance and Structure Inspection

The screen mask’s surface should have no scratches and have a deep black matte finish. You can check whether the mask is too reflective under natural light or side lighting. If there is excessive reflection, you should take photos and tell the supplier in time.

For the structure, the cabinet surface should be flat, and have an error of less than 1mm. The gaps between cabinets should also be no more than 0.5mm. In addition, for floor-standing church LED screens, check if their base weight is enough and whether the screen shakes when pushed.

Dead Pixel Policy and Acceptance Standards

For P1.25, P1.5, P1.9 LED displays, the dead pixel rate should be below 5 ppm, while for P2.5, P4.0 displays, it should be below 10 ppm. After installation and power-on testing, you can run a solid-color test and check the dead pixel rate.

If any dead pixels are found during the warranty period, use a full-screen test pattern to mark them. After the trade show, ask the supplier to replace them.

The spare parts and tools should have at least three LED modules, one power supply module, signal cables, a maintenance suction cup, a multimeter, a screwdriver set, cleaning tools, and other essentials.
